Torture and Who's Child is This?

It has been determined after having a hacking cough for the last five months Jake has asthma. Poor kid didn't have a chance with so many of my family members that also have it. Doesn't he look like he's being tortured? The treatments last about 10-15 min and he has to have them every 4-6 hours if he's coughing. It's been challenging to get a 3 year old to hold still that long but reading books during seems to help. It has improved his cough and for that his sleep deprived mom and dad are grateful.

We still haven't figured out who this chick looks like. Any guesses?

Ohh man Jake that is a too bad. Harm finally just got use to his treatments. Asthma is a b-u-m-m-e-r but oddly enough seems to do little to slow little boys down!

Mandy,
My boys had to have the treatments when they were little as well (mostly when they got a virus) and have grown out of it now, so we'll cross our fingers that Jakey does too!!! He is such a cutie! As for that baby, she is beautiful. It is hard to believe that Emma's clothes have already been handed down . . . babies are little for such a fleeting, short time. I am so excited for them to be little playmates in the future!! Keep posting pictures . . . there is no such thing as posting too many. Speaking for myself, I can't get enough of her, so keep 'em coming!!! Hope you are doing well and love you, Erinn P.S. Why didn't the doctors just give you a spacer mask with an albuterol inhaler since he is older and can breathe in and out for you? It takes less than a minute, is much more portable and is supposed to be just as effective! We'll have to chat about it, because it would make your life MUCH EASIER!! We used it for Emma when she had RSV. Have Cameron talk to Adam about it the next time they chat or you can call me!

Cam and Mandy,
Sorry to hear the Jake has asthma. You guys might try the inhaler/spacer combination. There's no difference in delivery of medication via the nebulizer and the inhaler/spacer with 2 puffs only takes about 20 seconds versus 15-20 minutes (plus it's a portable option). None of my patients in the ER get nebulizers and many parents have an impossible time wrestling a 2 or 3 year old for that long. Charlie's getting cute and we look forward to having a cousin for Emma to play with.
Take Care.
Adam

it would help to read my wife's comments before posting my own-- she's smarter than I am anyway-- but I guess she already gave you my 'doctor' advice!

I see Alex and some Cole in her. I believe that jane said the same thing when she was born. I guess I'll have to wait a few weeks and see her in person to make my final decision.

Poor Jake! But at least you know what's up.
And I can't see it in those pictures, but in a couple that Erika took she looks just like your kiddos. She's definitely in the right family. We can't wait to see you guys now that everyone is healthy and in town!

Mandy--Just catching up on blogs. Charlie is a doll. If Jake would sit still long enough to use an inhaler with a mask and a spacer for his albuterol it is WAY easier. He just has to cooperate long enough to get a good seal with the mask, puff 2 or 3 puffs, take 2 or three good breaths and that's it. It takes 30 seconds instead of 15 minutes, and they actually get more medicine. Some kids are active enough that there is no way they could do it, but if you can make it work it is much quicker.

Nothing like unsolicited medical advice via blogs...
