Mind vs Body

Don't we look well rested and ready to take on 13.1 miles? :)

This last Saturday was mine and Cam's half marathon. We started off the week with pasta dinners galore. We really wanted to do everything we could to make this race go as smooth as possible. We hydrated like crazy! From having two kids my bladder isn't like it used to be and I was constantly using the bathroom! Whenever we went anywhere instead of asking Alex if she needed to go potty, it was like "Mommy NEEDS to go potty lets go!" We left for St. George Friday morning and enjoyed spending time with my Grandma and some extended family. For dinner we made one last attempt to carb-up and had a light Olive Garden dinner. We set out our clothes and crashed early. Jake woke us up at the crack of dawn and it was really cold! It was around 28 degrees! Being the Arizonians that we are we packed on the clothing. We got to where everyone was gathering at the starting line and began to get a little nervous and antsy. With everyone making one last stop to the nasty porto pottys we hit the starting line. I ran with my good friend Emily and our husbands took off in front of us. We would occasionally see them turn a corner or at a switchback. The first six miles were crowded but went pretty fast. I wasn't quite prepared for all the inclines and hills, but they went pretty smoothly. At about mile 10 I started to really feel it, I had a bad side ache for about a half mile then it miraculously went away and I got a boost of energy and finished the race off with all I had left. Cam came in at 1:49:05 and I came in at 1:50:58. My goal was to finish before two hours and I was pretty excited with myself to keep a good pace at eight and half minute miles We also thought we did pretty well considering that we trained through the Holidays and procrastinated a little bit on vacations. All in all it was sooo much fun and I'm so glad that Cam decided to do it with me and that we walked away with our bodies still functioning. We definitely will be doing it again!

Congratulations! I am so excited for you guys. What a great time! I am still doing well to do 12 minute miles. Sometime this year I will be doing a 1/2. At least that is the plan. So glad to hear that you both finished. Love you guys!
